The project National Focal Point from Mauritius attended a regional workshop on “IWRM Regional Indicator Framework” in Nairobi. This event was organised to outline a proposed way forward for the development of a regional IWRM indicator framework for the Atlantic and Indian Ocean participating small islands. UNEP DHI is leading the process of developing the regional framework.
In parallel to the regional process, a national consultant has been hired to develop IWRM indicators for Mauritius. It is important to note that through the demonstration project in Grand Baie and the establishment of a GIS system to monitor the Northern Aquifer, Mauritius gathered relevant experience in establishing and managing indicator frameworks effectively. The government hopes to replicate what was done in the Northern Aquifer to all other aquifers of the country. This would form an important basis for the development of the national indicator framework for the country.
