Sao Tome and Principe - The Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE) recently embarked on a national touring exhibition on the topic of Integrated Water Resources Management. The aim of this activity was to raise awareness about specific water related problems affecting 10 communities around the island and show how IWRM can help solve these problems. A photo exhibition based on the entries submitted to the water4islands photo contest served to illustrate the sessions.
Quatre Borne, Mauritius - The development of guidelines for industrial effluent discharge permit was the focus of a two-day stakeholders’ consultation workshop which was held at Palms Hotel in Quatre Bornes. Some 40 participants from different ministries, relevant parastatal organisations and industrial enterprises gathered to discuss a national strategy for the industrial effluent control and environment protection.
Mahe, Seychelles, 12 July 2017 - The Cabinet of Seychelles officially endorsed the very first National Water Policy for Seychelles, as well as a national integrated water resources management (IWRM) plan and the drafting of the new Water Bill. The implementation of the new Water Policy will be done through the 5 year IWRM plan and will start immediately with the drafting of a new Water Bill.
Male, Maldives - The Ministry of Environment and Energy launched a new "FENFAHI" national awareness campaign to sensitise the public to better water management and sanitation practices. The initiative was unveiled at the occasion of World Water Day 2017.
City of Praia, Cabo Verde - The National Water and Sanitation Agency organised a two days training on "Conflict Management and Resolution Mechanisms in Integrated Water Resources Management", in the city of Praia. The event was targeting technicians and agents from the water and sanitation sector and aimed to strengthen selected institutions.
Moroni, Comoros - Within the framework of the implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management in the Atlantic and Indian Ocean Small Island Developing States (IWRM AIO SIDS) project, the General Directorate of Environment and Forests (DGEF) of Comoros organized a national workshop on conflict management and resolution mechanisms in Moroni on 17 and 18 January 2017.
Aa. Thoddoo Island, Maldives - The President of the Republic of Maldives launched a new water supply system on AA. Thoddoo island today. The system will harness harvested rainwater and water desalination to meet the domestic water demands of the island, helping to protect the island fragile freshwater lens by reducing over-extraction of groundwater.

Male, Maldives - A two days workshop on groundwater protection through sustainable integrated water supply systems was organised in Male. A demonstration project, which is to be implemented in Alifu Alifu atoll Thoddoo island, will pilot the system by harnessing rainwater and desalination to reduce overreliance on vulnerable groundwater while also promoting good practices to reduce and control groundwater pollution by agrochemical inputs.
